Michigan Chill welcomes Mexico City native Fatima Leyva. Fatima, former Mexican national team midfielder, will become our first international signing to our Lansing, MI new semi-professional women´s team.
Fatima has experience the highest level in women´s soccer by beng part of the Mexican national team 1998-2007. Team captain Leyva has participated in several professional events with Mexico such as: 1998 CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, 1999 USA Women World Cup, 2002 & 2006 CONCACAF Women´s Gold Cup, 2003 PanAmerican Games Domican Republic, and 2004 Athens Olympics. At a young age Leyva became a silver medalist along with her national team in the PanAmerican games in Winnipeg Canada.
Not only has Fatima Leyva represented her team internationally. But has had previous US soccer experience playing for FC Indiana 2005-2009 in the W-League and WPSL. Team captain for FC Indiana, Fatima and her team accomplished to become two time US Open Cup Champions and two time WPSL champs.
In 2010, Leyva initiates her European soccer experience signing with Russsian team Zvezda Perm. During her career with Zvezda Perm, Leyva and her team become runner-up in Russia´s professional league. That same season, Zvezda Perm became quarter finalist in UEFA Champions League.
Leyva´s extraordinary season with Zvezda Perm, drives Russian team FC Zorky Krasnogorsk to sign Leyva for their 2012-2013 season. During this season, FC Zorky becomes Russian League Champions and UEFA Champions League finalist.
