CHILL SBC NEWSLETTER VOL 42

BY BEN JONES

Welcome to the 42nd instalment of the Chill SBC soccer club newsletter.

Training will take place as usual next week on Presidents Day February 15th 2010. All technical training, SAQ and team training programs will run at the normal times. If you cannot attend the session please let your coach know prior to the session.

Winter training continues tonight at the Summit, with technical training, team training and SAQ training. Players taking part in team training this week will be working on how the midfielders can receive the ball from their defenders and players taking part in technical training will work on how they can dribble to beat a defender. These are the topics for the fourth week of our renowned year round player development curriculum that sees’s players work on a different technical topic and tactical topic each week in training.

In the event of any serious weather conditions that may occur during the winter season we may decide to cancel a training session if the travel conditions are particularly dangerous. If bad weather occurs families should check for a posting on the homepage of the website to see if the practice has been cancelled. With some particularly bad weather expected tomorrow it will be important to check the website before leaving for training. We will post a message on the website by 4pm if training is cancelled for the night. If no message is present then training will go ahead as usual.

Now for this weeks GREEN CARD’s. This week’s green cards go the U14 Boys and U12 Boys for an impressive display in the SBC league this weekend. The boys played with speed, skill and intelligence as they recorded two wins this weekend.

CHILL SBC NEWSLETTER VOL 41

BY BEN JONES

Welcome to the 41st instalment of the Chill SBC soccer club newsletter.

As we announced last week the club tryouts for the 2010-11 seasons will take place on Saturday June 12th, Sunday June 13th and Monday 14th June at East Lansing Soccer Complex. Please save the date as new and existing players are required to try out at this time. Tryouts will be held for U9-U18 boys and girl’s teams with multiple teams offered in some age groups. Full information for the tryouts will be posted on the website in the coming weeks so be sure to check out www.chillsoccer.com or contact me for more details.

I would also like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that the club will again be attending the Canton Cup in Canton, MI on May 28th-30th. We had a fantastic time at the Canton Cup last year and we will once again spend our Memorial Day weekend at the tournament. All teams will attend the tournament and we are hoping that the weekend will be even more successful than last year. I will be sending out some information with regards to hotels for the tournament closer to the time but we will look to house the whole club in one location like we did at the Midland Tournament in the fall. If families would prefer to make the drive to the tournament each day that is fine and one of the many advantages of this close to home tournament. It should be a great weekend.

Now for this weeks GREEN CARD. This week’s green card goes to the U11 Girls team. The team receives this green card for a great practice session last Monday night and a great performance in the SBC League on Saturday. The girls displayed focus, determination and skill in both the practice and game and although they came out on the losing end of the game they put in one of their best performances to date. Well done girls and keep up the great work!

Saturday saw the third round of games in our newly formed SBC Soccer League at the Summit. I am pleased that the league has been a huge success and is something we will look at continuing and expanding for next years winter season. You can find a full schedule and further details of the league under the SBC league tab on the website. You can also find the update league table and top goal scorer list under the same tab. Below are the results from the first weekend of games.

U11 Boys 6 – U12 Boys 2

U12 Girls 2 – U10 Boys Blue 3

U10 Boys White 2 – U12 Girls 0

U13 Boys 6 – U13 Girls Blue 1

U14 Boys 9 – U13 Girls White 1

In addition to these games the club was also represented well at soccer zone and below are the results from the U9 and U10 girl’s games this weekend.

U9 Girls 12-2 Win

U9 Girls 11-0 Win

U10 Girls 5-1 Win

U10 Girls 5-2 Loss

The other team in action this weekend was the U17 girls at LISA who played another TNT team this weekend and finished with a 4-4 tie.

With an extremely high number of players from outside the club taking part in our technical training program we have had a number of players and families ask about the possibility of joining a team for the spring 2010 season. With only a limited number of roster spaces on some teams we will not hold an official mid season tryout but we do invite any players interested in joining a team for the spring season to make themselves known to me at training this week or by emailing . Players interested in joining a team who are not currently training with the club should contact me and we can schedule a time where they can take part in a training session to learn more about the club. Please feel free to pass this information along to any players or families you may know who would be interested in joining a team this spring season.

As a reminder, I will be available at training this week to take any payments for the Winter and Spring training fees. The fees for all U9-U12 teams are $630. Fees for U13-U14 teams are $780. This fee covers once per week team training beginning this week for 11 weeks as well as 2 or 3 times per week team training in the spring. The fee also covers referee expenses, league expenses and games in the spring season. Tournaments and Indoor league play are in addition to this cost. These fee’s are due on or before April 1st and payments can be made in a one off payment or in the form of two checks each for half the total dated March 1st and April 1st 2010. You can also mail in the payments to 6431 Pine Hollow Drive, East Lansing, MI, 48823 if you prefer.

CHILL SBC NEWSLETTER VOL 39

BY BEN JONES

Welcome to the 39th instalment of the Chill SBC soccer club newsletter. I hope this note finds you well on MLK Jnr Day. A reminder that all training will take place as usual tonight starting at 6pm at the Summit.

I would like to begin this newsletter by thanking all the players and families for a great first week back at training last week. The Summit was full of familiar faces as well as a lot of new members to the Chill SBC family as our Technical training, SAQ and Team training programs began. We have had an excellent response to the programs we are offering and as a result we only have a few spaces left in each session. It is great to see the training sessions full of players enjoying the game and learning through our unique Strengths Based Coaching philosophy. As a reminder each week players taking part in the technical training program will work on a different topic from the clubs proven player development curriculum. Last week players looked to improve their short passing technique with both the inside and the outside of the foot. Players were then asked to apply these techniques in a series of small sided games to see if their newly improved technique could hold up under pressure. This week players will improve their defending as an individual through more technical exercises and small sided games. It should be another great week.

Now for this weeks GREEN CARDS. This week’s first green card goes to Tori Stuzman, Kayla Blohm, Anna Blohm, McKenzie Lowery and Renne Pappe for helping out the U14 boys on Saturday at short notice. Thanks for the help girls!!  Second green card this week goes to Ian Leischnig after a great game for the U12 boys on Saturday. Ian is still recovering from a horrific broken leg in fall 2008 and it was great to see him back looking as sharp as ever. Final green card this week goes to Coach Rob and Coach Stu for their work this week to help me get training back up and running to full speed and for taking some awesome sessions for the players. Keep up the great works guys.

Last Saturday saw the first round of games in our newly formed SBC Soccer League. The league was designed to provide current Chill SBC players with an opportunity to play more competitive games at a price that is affordable enough that every player in the club can take part. The league is structured so that Chill SBC teams play against other Chill SBC teams either of the same age, slightly older or younger or boys and girls teams can play one another. You can find a full schedule and further details of the league under the SBC league tab on the website. You can also find the update league table and top goal scorer list under the same tab. Below are the results from the first weekend of games.

U11 Girls 1 – U12 Girls 4

U11 Boys 1 – U12 Boys 3

U10 Boys White 2 – U10 Boys Blue 4

U13 Girls White 0 – U13 Girls Blue 5

U13 Boys 4 – U14 Boys 1

I am already looking forward to the next round of games on Saturday; it should prove to be another great indoor season of games. Thanks to everyone who made the $50 payment for the league this weekend, if you missed me at the games feel free to find me next weekend or at training this week.

In other news, The Michigan State men's soccer program will host its Elite Winter Prospect Academy on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. The camp is open to current high school sophomores or older (including college students) and space is limited to 72 field players and 12 goalkeepers. The cost of the daylong camp is $150 and will feature direction from MSU head coach Damon Rensing and staff along with current Spartan players. For more information and to register, visit the MSU Spartans website.

I will be available at training this week to take any payments for the Winter and Spring training fees. You can also mail in the payments to 6431 Pine Hollow Drive, East Lansing, MI, 48823 if you prefer

Team training that is included in the club fees continues this week and it is important that all players attend. If you cannot attend the session for any reason please let me or the coach of your team know in advance.

Players interested in any of the training programs that are now underway should visit www.chillsoccer.com for full details and see the documents tab on the website for the registration forms. Training programs are open to all current Chill SBC players as well as players from outside the club who are looking for more training opportunities this winter. There are very few spaces still remaining so please do not delay in registering.

If any one has any questions or I can help with anything at all please do not hesitate to get in touch on the information below.

CHILL SBC NEWSLETTER VOL 35

BY BEN JONES

Welcome to the 35th instalment of the Chill SBC soccer club newsletter.

We are pleased to announce the dates and price structure for the second part of our winter training program beginning in January. The training program will see the continuation of Technical Training and Goalkeeper training as well as the growth of the SAQ Training to two nights per week. Current Chill SBC players will take part in once per week team training during the January to April period. This team training is included in your club fee’s for winter and spring 2010. You can find team training schedules that begin in January on the website under the “team training” tab on the left hand side. We are encouraging all players to take part in technical or SAQ training in addition to their once a week team training so please be sure to co-ordinate team training nights with any other sessions you wish to take part in. We are pleased to offer a separate price during this time for all High School aged girls to accommodate the shorter program they will take part in due to high school tryouts in March. Registration forms for all programs are now available under the documents tab on the website. If you know anyone from outside the club who might be interested in the winter training program please direct them to the website or feel free to put them in touch with me and I will be happy to give them more information.

This week also saw the club announce Jeremy Clark as the club's new goalkeeper coach effective immediately. Jeremy is currently one of the Goalkeepers for the Michigan State Spartans Men’s Soccer team. Prior to signing with the Spartans Jeremy was a standout goalkeeper for Vardar Soccer Club and member of the Olympic Development Program Region II team for five years and the State ODP team for seven years. He also made the Adidas All-Star Team in 2005 and was an Adidas ESP participant in 2005 and 2006. Jeremy will step in to fill the void left by former goalkeeper coach Eric Perilla who is currently on trial with professional club Yeovil Town FC in England. Jeremy brings a wealth of experience to our club and we are excited for him to continue the great work that Eric has started to make our goalkeeper program the most extensive in the area.

Now for this weeks GREEN CARD’s.

This week’s green card goes to the U11 Girls team for two great performances in games this weekend. The girls played very well on Saturday to get an impressive win and worked extremely hard on Sunday to earn themselves a draw. Well done to all the girls.

The second green card this week goes to U10 Girls team for two impressive wins this weekend. The girls beat a very good Mid-Michigan Rush team 7-1 on Sunday which was particularly impressive as the girls had lost 4-2 to the same team earlier in the season. The result shows the improvement the girls have shown during this session of indoor. Well done to all the girls.

It seems that schedules for indoor games are changing constantly so please be sure to check your teams at www.lansingindoorsportsarena.com. The U10 girls can find their schedule at www.soccer-zone.com. I will send out a list of this weekends games towards the middle of the week to remind you. A reminder that players can wear their outdoor cleats for all games at LISA and will need either outdoor cleats or indoor shoes at soccer zone.

Details of second session games will be available shortly. I will be in touch this week with full details.

If you have any questions, feedback, concerns or just require information about anything do not hesitate to contact myself or Ben on the details below.

Have a great week!

MICHIGAN CHILL SBC SOCCER CLUB

WINTER TRAINING PROGRAM

January 11th – April 2nd 2010

The Michigan Chill SBC Soccer Club is pleased to announce the dates and price structure for the second part of our winter training program beginning in January.

The winter season represents a great time for players of all ages to improve their individual technical abilities. We have seen major improvements in a large number of our players in previous years and we are sure that this winter program will be our most successful yet with our prices being lower than ever before and the quality of players and coaches higher than in any of our previous seasons.

Our coaching staff will continue to deliver technical training sessions of the highest standard by utilizing the clubs year round player development curriculum. Players involved with the winter training will continue to learn the game through the use of green cards and the clubs unique strengths based coaching philosophy. To learn more about green cards and strengths based coaching please log on to www.strengthsbasedcoaching.com or www.chillsoccer.com.

To register for any of these programs please print off the registration form under the documents tab on the website and mail in along with payment to the mailing address on each form. Please do not delay in registering as spaces are limited for each program.

CHILL SBC NEWSLETTER VOL 34

BY BEN JONES

Welcome to the 34th instalment of the Chill SBC soccer club newsletter. I hope that everyone had a great thanksgiving and took a well earn break from work to spend some time with loved ones.

It is hard to believe that we are entering the fourth week of our indoor programs! This week in technical training players will be learning the techniques of defending as individuals and in small groups. With things in full swing it is scary to think that Christmas will be upon us soon and its time to begin to think about training and games in January. I will be sending each team a plan for January games this week so please keep a look out for that and let me know your thoughts.

Please note that Indoor training schedules for Team training in January are now on the website. Technical training, SAQ training and Goalkeeper training will be posted on the website later today. Please check the website for times, dates and prices for each program.

Now for this weeks GREEN CARD’s.

This week’s green card goes to Paige Duren, Lydia Whipple, Jenna Li and Taylor Bishop for taking part and winning the Soccer Zone 3v3 U10 Girls Division last Friday. The girls played some great soccer to work off that Thanksgiving Turkey and finished as undefeated champions. Green card also to Mr Duren for great coaching and Mrs Duren for her superb role as team manager and competition organiser!

I would also like to give green cards to Megan Colligan, Lindsay Crim, Rachel Slater, Megan Jezak, Emily Basewell, Maddie Wilsey, Josh Rosendale, Robert Manning, Ben Holland, Ben Schon, Martin Lang, Luke Menne and Ben Abood for playing an extra game this weekend to help out teams who were short of players because of the thanksgiving holiday! It is great to see these players and families willing to help out another team and have fun playing with other players. Thank you!

Limited spaces are still available for some technical training, SAQ and Goalkeeper sessions; please contact me for more information.

If you have any questions, feedback, concerns or just require information about anything do not hesitate to contact me on the details below.

Have a great week!

Thanks for reading!

First green cards this week go to Hailey Conine and Abraham Johnson. These two players receive green cards this week for making the state ODP team for their respective age groups. Both players were identified for ODP back in August and have made it through the final weekend of cuts early in November. Hailey and Abe are now working hard at the state ODP training to try to make the jump to the regional pool. Well done guys we are very proud of you for representing yourselves and the club at the ODP level. Good luck in the next stage of the process.

Second green card this week goes to our newly formed U10 Girls team who played their first game together at soccer zone this past weekend. Although the game eventually ended in a tight loss the girls played extremely well and impressed coach Stuart with their skills and effort.
